Let’s put this in context.

All he has seen is exactly one (1) zombie, who he thought was a drunk guy, bite him then he was knocked out. Wakes up to see the world basically burning with no hint of more zombies.

So he is basically taking what the girls say as truth, or he still doesn’t know but given the circumstances he is still going to comfort her for doing it.

Basically he is a good guy.
