They can’t and won’t let anyone know that they are onto Agatha. So instead of asking her, they ask the troop leader. Meaning if he says yes, no one will question why they are with the group.
I mean, they do have questions, but not for reasons that matter.
One good turn calls for another. The Jaegars knows this, so they are going to stick around in case another good turn turns up.

Agatha it’s fine if you don’t like it. I’m happy that you don’t and want to make the world better! But do it under better circumstances that doesn’t threaten everyone else!

Listen. Respect here for Payne. Not saying this isn’t a hard choice, but he has responsibilities to the circus and he is going to do his best to protect them.
Agatha, you heart is good and pure….but that is a dumb idea. You don’t know what they are, you want to capture some so it is risking your life+others, plus giving them access back over the bridge to everyone else…yeah this is bad all around. They have the right to judge you.
