John isn’t asking her to instantly get her powers, or to be immediately perfect. Only that she tries, because he needs her.

Honestly Terezi is the best person to ask for help. Because by seeing choices, she can tell John what thing to change to change the outcome.

So basically, you need a self confidence boost to use your power, that you can’t use because of your lack of self confidence.
