The reason why Karkat didn’t want anyone to sleep was because they would see the Dark Gods and the Time Vortex and that would freak anyone out.

So I am going to end it here for the day. I have made it half way through this chapter, and man is it going good. That fight between Forge and Spender, good god I was almost tearing up at it. It was so raw and emotional and just fuck, a clash of ideas on how to be/act good. Because we know that Forge isn’t completely, purely good. He did bad things, he spoke a language that only truly evil beings can speak. But you hear him scream basically that you shouldn’t throw people under the bus and allow them to die for the sake of the world, only to be countered by Spender with you shouldn’t have screwed around with the bus in the first place. Just everything about this, I honestly think that this is the best scene in the entire comic so far.
And man oh man we have learned so much more. Spender controls light and shadows. His spirit is satan/lucifer who is a caged bird mixed with a light bulb since he brings light. Isabel chose Max over her Spirit Partner. And Spender’s lover was a ghost/spirit that was super super powerful and he had to kill/got credit for her death. Lot more excitement coming our way!

So Terezi thinks Dave is basically the cooler Karkat. I can dig it. I still think Dave is gay (from like one “I love you” line, I know it isn’t much but it is all I have at the moment) so I am pretty sure that won’t get together. And it seems that Dave feels the same way.
Dave also has red eyes. So that whole “sun in sunglasses” look from the Dave Strife video was a long ago foreshadowing. Terezi is obsessed with red, no idea why but at least it makes her happy.
Dave talking with Orange-Dave is always charming. Got more hints on to the game stealing lore from the planets it is playing at. Hence the King Arthur sword and greek sword forger. And Vriska will do what she can to keep her boy in the lead. Yeah, she does what she can to win.
And this “ellusive bro” thing still supports my theory that either Bro knew EXACTLY what was going on before the other 3 adults, or he knew NONE of what is going on and is just literally just stumbled into this. Ether way works.
So that is the end of chapter one of Deadendia.
So first..That was gay. Don’t think I didn’t notice the lesbian couple who was touring with their son at the beginning of this chapter. Cause I saw them. Then we have Barney who is trans. I mean, the binder was a pretty big (but subtle) clue that he was trans, so I am pretty sure he is trans. Which is nice to see some representation all up in here!
Barney is a lovable doof who just really loves his dog. Norma is pretty chill for knowing that her job is filled with literal demons. The demon crowd reminds me of a group of college kids for some reason. Everyone actually is giving me a college feel to it.
The art is pretty nice. It feels like a comic series made in response to a cartoon. (which seeing how it was based an a 5 minute animation video, it was). The style does remind me of Adventure Time and Steven Universe, and the colors were fun and expressive.
For the plot, I like the set up this first chapter has. Old worn down Haunted House attraction now has actual literal demons to boost up popularity. Two buds are looking out for one another since it seems like Barney got kicked out (three guesses why…ugh). And now the dog talks, so we have some fun animal companions too. Plus with the hinted overarching plot of Future Scarf Man “testing” them for the next chapters, yeah it has a nice set up.
Unfortunately, I do not think I will continue to blog about this series. When I looked up DeadEndia, the first link I got took me to a page where the Author was going to stop the webcomic in a webcomic version. Instead they are going to continue to publish this as a book series (found right here and here if anyone was interested). So because of the switch in format, I don’t have a lot of material to blog about, and I don’t really want to spoil the end of the first book here. So I decided to just stop at the first chapter.

Eridan was going down again because of his neediness. I like reading him but honestly? I feel the same with Equius. As weird as he is, he is at least honest and fun to mess around with. I don’t think I can stick him higher than Kanaya though, she can be slightly snooty but nice. So I have them tied for 9th.

So that was….something. Got it was really really funny and weird to see those to interact together. It was nice to see someone rap to Dave’s caliber (it being in iambic caught me off guard so hard) but then it got weird like real quick with the animal fetishish. But…Equius really was trying to bond with Dave, and Dave was honest about his skills and still got the Sword in a pretty slick move, even if it is broken.
So yeah this was a good convo.
So we finally reach our train here. That was fun to read and the train design is pretty cool. Glad it is living up to the hype here.
So Spender is like a soldier or something. He is her due to a mission to stop the big bad, and save the lost souls. Maybe he is working with the ghost rebel people…but I doubt that since Squirrel guy warned Anvil to stay away from Spender. And I guess his mission might lead him to evil? Does not sound good.
Gramps and Isabel need to work on communication. Or better training styles. Like, I get he cares, but this tough love crap isn’t helping her, it is making her more frustrated.
Isaac is going to go to the dark side soon if Spender keeps shunning him from information like this. Seriously, throw him a bone or something! Or he is going to do the dramatic Anime Betrayal on your ass.
And Max is learning more fun things about spirits on this trip. Things he would have liked to have known before.
Oh buddy I want to, I really really want to. God what kind of conversation would that be. But I can’t so I must move on.
We are having a lot of back-to-back troll convos with the kids. It is face, and nice. Rose is still hell bent on destroying the world for answers, where Aradia didn’t blow up (she is going to blow up eventually, I just know it, it feels important) Nepeta is cute and just wants to talk to another cat buddy. And listen to Jaspers Rose, just play the rain and it will be all ALL good.
Dave is getting the better people. Him talking with Gamzee, man that is just beautiful. And I can’t believe that the Insane Clown Posse really is just Gamzee. That…that was surprising not going to lie.
That was fun. Just some little lightheartedness from this series. I feel like I am going to be stealing ideas for my own player creation and campaigns. There is just too many to pass up.

So that was the end of the first volume. The Prologue.
I have to admit, it was fun to read. I am still not super into the plot here, but I do enjoy poking fun at the people and places. The faces have the weirdest expressions, but it has their own charm to it. The details for the background designs were cool to look at, and the robot designs were fun too.
Baron is so “I can solve anything anyway” that he overlooks things when he thinks he solved it. The Jagers are so much fun and I love the group of them. Amir (I think that is his name, I don’t remember) seems like an interesting person to keep around. Someone who thinks that Agatha killed his brother, so an enemy turned ally. Agatha’s parents are Frankenstein’s creatures and Agatha can sing the cursed language of Cthulhu, which is pretty interesting.
Oh my Fibonacci scale that I made up, I would give it an 8. Not too much pf a fan of the series, but something that I wouldn’t mind reading because it was fun liveblogging.

So Grandma can take pranking a bit too far, but at least her is still there to help John. And she gets one of those tutorial summoning locket, like in games where you can get the help feature when you need one? That is what I am imaging the locket to be.
Rose and Eridan…yikes and no. I get that Eridan is trying to find his “true hate” but he came off way too strong and stupid on the whole hate thing. Plus, this was like the 1st conversation they had together? You should let the hate occur naturally.
But him getting confused over their blood status based on their text color, I think that is with all of the trolls here. Because if that was the case, then they will think Jade has green blood (which with her plants, it fits), Dave has red blood (duh, human, but whatever), John has blue blood, and Rose has Purple blood. I don’t think the trolls saw any human but Dave bleed, so that would be interesting if they see that ALL humans bleed red, not just Dave.
I am tired, and I am done. That was a long video to make. I had fun playing the game, but it was a long long time to make/process it.
I shall take the advice of my Discord Chat and decide to use screenshots for the next time.
See here’s the thing, I would love to continue Monster Pulse. Seeing how I was able to do 1 chapter in one sitting, it seems pretty manageable to complete the series. But I have already decided to commit to having only 3 main series and don’t want to get too overloaded with what I am reacting/my schedule.
However, once I am done with one of those series, I would totally put this in the short list for “Main Series Replacement”
So this was an interesting first chapter. We get a general idea of who Bina is, not a lot of details, but enough to push the plot forward. She has no idea who this heart monster is, but it really did take her heart to sustain itself.
The secret evil pta MIB is horrible. But we got enough hints over what they do without taking away from Bina, since this is the story of her escape. I love the creativity of the forms these monsters take, and I guess the spirit things comes from the pta MIB, or at least they have some control of it.
I am glad Julie was there. She was pretty cool, if a little nuts. But they did well in making Julie and Bina act like regular children.
Heart-Mon is cute. I love her (him? them? I’ll go with her for now). She is a big doofas, but innocent and very kind. She also kicks ass so that is a plus.
This was a good chapter for intoducing our main character and the idea of body monsters. However, this series is also at least 30 chapters long. So unless I get some….incentive…..to continue with this series, it will probably be a while before I continue with it. But one I wouldn’t mind.
On a Fibonacci scale of 1 to 21, I would give this chapter a 13. Not a “die hard omg I want more” feel, but it is still a “I am intrigued and it was written very well so I would like to read more”

All of this is about true love, or at least mainly about the 3 boys arguing over love and couples. It looked like Dave didn’t give a fuck at first, but since Day 3 Dave also warned John about Vriska, I guess he turned around on the “not dating troll girls” thing.
Karkat is cute but still an asshole. Dave is sarcastic and does not give a shit about anything. I wish I had that confidence. And John is still clueless and confused, but it is so adorable. I feel the same way when it comes to love, don’t worry bro. I got you.
But that sleep thing still concerns me. I know there is something more to it than what they are saying right now. I can feel it.
So my video is in purgatory now. I guess people can’t handle Vriska’s feelings.

Well, PJ is getting sadder and sadder. I don’t know if Morrison is changing their design for PJ or what, but he keeps getting darker bags under his eyes, and some weird twitching. I get the feeling he was a kid sick in bed who did nothing much read comics all day until he died. And that is pretty sad. But it was nice to see Max trying to cheer him up.
Johnny is onto the group. Good for him. He is so weird. Garcia is weird as hell too. And I love them both. I love them soo much.
Gramps is still a serious asshole, And Ed is the weird ass charmer he is. I love that child.
And spender….why is everyone in this series have some form of weirdness to them? Seriously

But we get some more Terezi and Dave bonding time. I think they are good together, but they have different meanings of how together they are.
I see Dave thinking Terezi as a good friend, and Terezi may (maybe) see the relationship more as a diamonds thing (since she is keeping him in line) so they have different views of their “love” for one another, but they are still nice together.
But now I worry over what Karkat is telling Dave.

If I remember right, the characters are Roy, Belkar, V, Elan, Haley, and the cleric. So I got almost the names down. That is pretty good for it being a strip by strip comic.
